Sunset

by Lady Scarlet-Une

"Y'know, for an artificial sky, the sunset is quite beautiful."

Heero ignored her and continued scanning the area. Relena looked at him and sighed.

"Heero."

He ignored her again.

"Heero, look at the sunset."

Since it happened to be in his area of sight at the moment, Heero quickly glanced at it before shrugging and turning his head away.

Relena shook her head and turned her attention back to the view.

"When I was a little girl, my father and I used to take walks down on the beach around this time and watch the sun sink into the waves. He used to tell me that colors were an expression of the sun's happiness. Because it was finally able to rest."

Heero shot her a disgruntled look. "The sun has no emotion," he said.

Relena rolled her eyes. "Geez. Maybe I should just call it Heero then."

Heero was not amused. He frowned at her before resuming his restless visual patrol. "I really do not like being in the open like this, Relena. We should probably get to a more secure location."

Relena shook her head. "There is no secure location."

"There would be if you let me -"

"No," she said.

He stared at her for a long moment. "If you insist."

"I do."

So they sat and gazed silently as the colony's imitation sun faded away, he from the shade of his tree and she from the grassy area to his side. As the colors reached their peak, Heero couldn't help but notice the multi-colored hue they cast on the objects around them. Especially how they cast a mixture of reds and oranges on his companion. Noticing his attention, Relena turned to him and smiled.

"Thank you, Heero. For this last wish. For everything."

"You're welcome."

The colony beneath them exploded.
