Deceptions and Lies Chapter 13

Relena sighed as she opened the door to her house, her evening with Heero had gone better than expected. Moving aside for Heero to slip by, carrying their sleeping daughter in his arms, Relena smiled as Heero brushed against her.

During dinner they discussed what they had done the past month. She was busy with never ending mounds of paper work, and Heero hacking into one company record after the other. And on top of that he has surveillances, inspections, meetings, and Wufei to deal with. He was by far busier than her the past month, and that explained why he did have much time to call.

Closing the door behind her, Relena watched Heero walk up the steps to take Katelyn to her room. Taking off her coat, Relena went to the kitchen and poured herself and Heero a drink. They didn't have much of a chance out in public to have a private conversation about how they felt toward each other, and she was preparing herself for what was to come. That was the reason for the wine that she poured for them, to help calm her nerves and lighten the situation.

A few moments later Heero walked down the steps and found Relena sitting on the couch with her legs tucked up beside her. She smiled as he walked toward her.

"Sit with me for awhile Heero." She said as she held out the goblet to him.

Heero took off his coat and laid it over the arm of the couch, then took the glass from her hand and sat down beside her. "Thank you." Relena smiled and they stared at each other for a few moments before Relena spoke up.

"Did Katelyn wake up when you put her down?"

"No, she's out good. Probably for the rest of the night."

Relena tried her best to hide the smiled that crossed her face. She was hoping that Katelyn did stay asleep. If things continued the way that they were going, then every minute that she and Heero were alone, her plan would work. After a few moments of silence, and both of them trying to figure out what to say, Heero spoke up.

"Relena, I've been wanting to talk to you about something."

"Oh." She looked at him to see that he had turned slightly to face her better and placed his glass on one of the coasters on the coffee table.

"I've had a lot of time the past month to think about things. And I finally took notice that I have been pushing you, hoping to get you to see something that wasn't there. I just wish I wouldn't have put you in this situation. I wish I didn't make the mistake that I did. And I deserved to loose you. But I don't want to loose this new friendship that we have. I would rather have you as a friend than not to have you or Katelyn in my life at all."

Relena was slightly shocked at what he just said. Looking away from him she let his words run around in her head. What he had just said wasn't what she was expecting. She was hoping that he would have started his speech on why they should be together, and she was going to open heartily agree after he was done. She couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed by his words. "Friends." She hadn't even known that she had spoken out loud.

Heero stared at her when she spoke up. That one word was filled with disappointment. 'Shit, did Duo really know something that I didn't?' "Relena are you alright? Did I say something..."

"No I'm fine." She cut Heero off. "I was just thinking out loud I'm sorry." Relena looked away from him. She didn't want to look foolish by him seeing the slight hurt in her eyes. If he had said those same words to her a few short months ago she would have agreed with him, and she could have moved on. But she knew that it was impossible now. Why couldn't she look at him and let him know how she really felt toward him?

Heero watched her with curiosity. Something was bothering her, and he knew it had to do with what he said. Could it be possible that she had done some thinking while he was gone as well and came up with the decision that she wanted to give their relationship another try? He had to find out so he slowly reached out and took her chin gently in his hand and turned her to look at him. He looked deep into her eyes and saw something that seemed to be pleading to him and he slowly leaned toward her and pressed his lips against hers. Relena seem to stiffen for a slight moment then relaxed and was soon kissing him back.

The thought of how badly she wanted him ran through Relena mind. And the second that she felt Heero shift and start to push her down on the couch, and his tongue demanding entrance, she pushed him off of her and got up off of the couch. She defiantly didn't want this, after all of the mess that they went though, to be a romp on the couch. Looking at Heero she saw a look of confusion on his face.

"Relena, I'm...I'm sorry if I...."

Relena bent down in front of him and place a finger on his lips, cutting him off. "Shhhhh. There's no reason to apologize."

Glancing at the clock Heero looked back at Relena to see her heading toward the stairs. Standing up he grabbed his coat and walked toward the door. "It's getting late I should get going."

Relena looked down at the floor, she had to make a decision. Deal with this tonight or wait for another night. The longer she waited she would probably talk herself out of it. She heard Heero say goodnight to her, but as soon as she heard the sound of the door opening she rushed forward and pushed it shut, surprising Heero.

"Stay."

"Wh...what?" It was the first time that Heero had ever stumbled over words, and he heard Relena chuckle quietly.

"I want you to stay Heero." Reaching for his coat she tossed it back onto the couch "Stay here with me tonight." Taking his hand in hers she led him toward the steps.

"Are... are you sure Relena? Because I won't be able to stop myself if we...." Relena quickly kissed Heero to shut him up then tugged on his hand to let him know that she was serious.

As they made their way to Relena's bedroom Heero couldn't help but think that Duo would somehow know what happened here tonight. He felt Relena squeeze his hand before she stopped to open the bedroom door. Giving him a smirk she unzipped her dress then stepped into the bedroom. Heero knew at this moment that things were going to work out. He would make damn sure of that, there was no way he would ever screw up again.. Having not moved from his spot his eyes drifted up to see Relena smile at him before she let the dress fell to the floor. It was once he saw that she wasn't  wearing anything under her dress that Heero fumbled with his tie and moved into the room, closing the door behind him.
