Yes, another songfic - filler as I battle my writer's block.  This is a one-off
to another Sarah Brightman song (Does not go with "Strange Love, and yes, there
will be a sequel).  It's sad, but totally worth it.  Hope ya'll like it!  -

Formalities:  I don't own Gundam Wing or the song "Gloomy Sunday"

Sunday is gloomy
My hours are slumberless.
Dearest, the shadows I live with
Are numberless

The rain continued to fall as it had for days.  It was as if the whole world
were crying for the loss of her.  Heero opened his eyes - he had closed them
because it was too painful to keep them open.  He hadn't slept for weeks.  His
vision was blurred, but it really didn't matter.  It was as if he couldn't see
at all anymore.  The grayness of the outside had pervaded every inch of his body
and soul.  It surrounded him relentlessly and clouded his senses, fighting
against the irreparable hurt that had overtaken him.  He sat amidst the remnants
of their life together.  He had not been able to make himself leave the place
where so much of her remained.  If it weren't for the church bells he never
would have known it was Sunday.

Little white flowers will never
Awaken you
Not where the black coach of
Sorrow has taken you.
Angels have no thought of ever
Returning you
Would they be angry if I thought of
Joining you?
Gloomy Sunday

It had happened on a Sunday.  She had been dashing around their bedroom, making
sure she had everything she needed for the Colony Summit.  He had decided to
take a later flight so that he could pick up her anniversary gift and surprise
her later that evening.   As he was walking across the main square, footage of a
shuttle explosion flashed across the news screen, with a frenzied anchor
spouting off unconfirmed reports of the Vice-Foreign Minister's death.  He had
been unable to move.  Duo and Quatre practically carried him back home, and
there he had stayed since.

Sunday is gloomy
With shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have decided to
End it all

Every movement was a painful effort as he removed the gun from its case.  He had
thought perhaps he would never use it again when he put it away after that long
ago Christmas.  'How many times had I pointed this gun at her,' he wondered,
wincing at the cruel twist of fate.  She had been the one who had given his life
meaning and purpose.  Without her he would have been dead, at least on the
inside.  Relena had shown him how to love, how to feel.  Yes, he had his
friends.  They were kind, and very concerned for him.   They took turns coming
to check on him a few times a week.  He knew they were all expecting this.

Soon there'll be flowers and
Prayers that are said I know
Let them not weep let them
Know I was glad to go.

He walked to the bed table and adjusted the collection of photographs -
snapshots of the two of them, a portrait of Relena on their wedding day.  He lay
down on the bed and turned his head so that he was looking at her.  She smiled
happily back at him from the silver frame.  He raised the gun to his temple and
fixed his eyes on the face of the girl in the picture.  "I have no reason to
stay here now.  I'm going to find you.  Relena..." he whispered, and as the
church bells sang out, Heero pulled the trigger.

Death is no dream for in death
I'm caressing you
With the last breath of my soul
I'll be blessing you
Gloomy Sunday

Suddenly he was plunged into a black abyss, the shot ringing in his ears.  He
felt himself falling... falling...

Heero jolted as his eyes fluttered open.  The rain continued to come down in
torrents outside the window, which let in just a hint of gray morning light.  He
touched his face with a trembling hand, feeling the sweat run down his forehead.
He was breathing so hard that his chest hurt, but he sat up ever so slowly,
hesitantly turning to the right.  He felt his body go limp with relief as he saw
Relena sleeping peacefully by his side.  He let out a moan and collapsed on top
of her.  Confused, Relena woke to the sensation of Heero gripping her with all
his might.  He looked so afraid - what on earth could have frightened him so
much?  She sat up, still holding onto him, and gently raised his face so that
his eyes met hers.  She was worried and began to speak, "Heero, what's..."  He
reached up and put a finger to her lips, inching his way up he kissed her
tenderly and continued to hold her with thankful arms, never wanting to let her
go.  Again he realized, as thoughts flew through his mind, how much she was a
part of him.

Dreaming.  I was only dreaming.
I wake up and find you asleep in
The deep of my heart, dear.

See, it wasn't all that depressing, just a bad dream.  I'm still on a great big
sap kick, but I thought I'd toss in a little angst and this song worked great.
Again, this is a stand-alone and does NOT go with the Who Wants to Live
Forever/Strange Love series.
