RETURN TO HER TEARS

Flashback.

"Heero...I have been waiting to tell you something for 5 years..."Relena hesitated, tears beginning to blur her vision "I love you Heero...wait where are you going Heero... please don't leave...I need to hear you say something...please Heero anything..."

Heero stopped but still had his back to the crying girl.

"I'm sorry Relena but right now I can not answer you..."

"Heero I really need a answer from you...please tell me so I can let go..."

"Relena...I'm sorry...I can't answer you right now...I really can't...goodbye..."

Relena stood as she watched Heero's retreating back disappear. She knew that she cannot stop him and make him stay, she knew that he would run away again and even if he did stay, it would be a false love...she really needed him to tell her, to confirm.

Why am I always thinking about her...why can't I get her out of my mind...I'm a soldier, I don't have feelings for anyone...what are these emotions doing in my mind. Heero thought as he woke up from the sleepless nights. She was haunting his dreams again...he can remember it so clearly.
He ran his fingers through his messy, brown hair.

I don't understand love...I've killed men. Women and children...what does she see in me...I am so. Different to her she cries...why...Sweat tinkled down his cheeks...why do I still care about her...why do I feel empty when up and saw his tired, empty looking reflection on the small mirror, his deep blue Prussian eyes telling him something. Once again he saw her image in his mind again...he wanted so much to see her again but then at the same time, he feared it.

No...you have no emotions...his mind kept telling him. . She deserves a man who is with her at all times...a man that took care of her when she really need help...you only make her life a living hell.

No...you are wrong. Heero stood knocking the little radio on top of the table. A familiar tune began to leak out, as Heero was about to turn of this noisy thing; he stopped when the first lyrics began.

Heero sat down holding the little radio in his hand as the other lyrics came

How will I know if I let you go?' got him thinking...Relena has already told him that she loved him...is it time to tell her how I fell. No...she'll reject you...she deserves Prince Charming, not some soldier whose only purpose is to fight.

How will I know...I gotta let her know...before it's too late. He got up and quickly packed up his belongings in the tiny apartment (tank tops and jeans) in his duffle bag. 3 long years has he been hiding in this little apartment. He set out to call a cab to the airport. I'm coming Relena...

"Heero...buddy...your alive, oh my god, I'm so happy to see you again...I think I'm going to cry...Hilde please pass me a tissue."

Heero couldn't help but smirk as he hears the unmistakable Duo Maxwell's loud voice ring in his ears. Duo jumped up and gave Heero a big bear hug, which ended up with both of them on the ground.

"Heero buddy.... I'm just so happy to see you again...we missed you so much."

"Yeah, it's like 3 years since we last saw you."Hilde piped in.

Heero looked around the crowd, he recongised all of the faces. He only told Duo about his arrival, knowing him he musts of spread the word. There was Trowa and Iria Barton; standing beside Iria was Catherine Bloom, Trowa's sister. Iria and Catherine had become great friends and were as close as sisters. Beside Catherine was Quatre Raberba Winner, with Dorothy Catalonia, Sally Po and a moaning Wufei completed the gang. Heero looked around, one person was missing. Opening his mouth to speak, Hilde ushered Heero towards the exit and the others began to prod him with questions. "lets go Heero"Duo said quickly. Something wasn't right...they are all hiding something from him.

"Heero is that you"A gentle and familiar voice made Heero whip his head around and drop his jaw at the sight that greeted him. 20 years old Relena Peacecraft walked briskly towards him. Her honey blonde hair frames her delicate face and her sky blue eyes shone brighter that before, yet that was how he remembered it. Relena ran up and gave Heero and the rest of the gang a big hug. "Relena..."he breathed, not daring to take his eyes of this goddess. He felt the lost emotions bubbling up again. About to say something, Relena walked away as her cellphone rang. Heero gazed at her delicate movements but frowned when he looked up and saw her face, she was crying."C'mon Heero lets go"Duo said.

He looked back at Relena and saw the crystal clear tears fall out like raindrops. About to give Duo his famous deathglare, Duo spoke quietly"I'll explain later.

At Quatre's mansion, the gang satin the large living room. An awkward silence hung over them and Hilde broke the icy wall of silence. "Duo, Heero needs to know"Tears fell down her cheeks as she began to pass tissues to the girls.

Heero looked at Duo, a dark shadow hung over his usually violet eyes, for an extremely cheerful person, he hardly ever got upset.

"Relena is engaged...to this guy called Blake Adams...After you left 3 years ago, Relena was in a bad state. She went around day and night to look for you. She didn't eat or sleep."

Duo closed his eyes and Quatre spoke up.

"That night, half a year ago, it was pouring down with rain and Relena was missing, She was found at the beach...where you first met her, she thought that you would be there. Blake found her, cold, scared and tears staining her face Blake held out his hand and mended her broken heart. Blake saved her when she was lost, he was there when she was lonely and took care of her when she was upset.

He proposed to her about 4 weeks ergot first she hesitated, thinking that you would be back, but you never gave her an answer. She thought you hated her Heero, so she agreed. We haven't seen her much since."

Heero regretted ever leaving her, he left her in pity...he was too late. He felt empty and cold but his soldier side decided to show upon his face. His emotions covered up by his cold, dark blue shade.

"I don't care..."he said coldly as he walked out of the room. Inside him, there was nothing to live for.

The next day Trowa and Iria Barton invited Heero over. Heero wordlessly agreed. There was nothing else to do anyway. Iria look from Heero to Trowa, eagerly waiting for one of them to start a conversation. As silent as stars, she rolled her eyes and made a phone call. She wanted to know what caused the break up 3 years ago, if he wasn't going to talk maybe she will.

Relena Peacecraft rushed to the front door of the Barton's Mansion. "Iria...what happened, I got here as soon as I can, what did you want to tell me"taking a deep breathe, Relena eyed Iria.

"Oh, Hi Relena, do you want some tea? Here come this way."Iria said as she lead Relena to the living room. "Hi Trowa"Relena said politely as she gave Trowa a hug and a kiss ion the cheek.

"Oh Heero, hi...you're here,"She said awkwardly. Heero nodded his head, they sat down neither talking. Relena took a sideway glance to Heero, he had gotten a lot taller and his well built body was visible from his blue shirt. She blushed and looked away. Heero couldn't help but smile when he saw her cute blush. Iria saw the cute blush and held onto Trowa's hand.Just then Relena's cellphone rang and she jumped to pick it up, fear in her eyes. It was Blake. Heero in sorrow as Relena tried to explain that she was only in a friend's house. But Blake kept asking things like 'who is your friend, is your friend a boy or a girl.'and'is there any other guys there with you.'

Trowa spoke to Heero quietly; "maybe this is the reason we haven't seen her much."

Suddenly, Blake yelled"I knew there was a guy there with you, how could you Relena."

Relena tried to explain to Blake that Trowa was only Iria's Husband but Blake just got angrier and angrier. "You go around to peoples houses and flirt with there husband, have you got no prode?!"he roared. He called Relena a really bad name. Tears were running down Relena's cheeks as Blake's voice echoed through the room. At last, she couldn't take it anymore so she picked up her cellphone and dropped it in to her glass of water. The water bubbled and Blake's voice was drowned down. "Relena,"Iria spoke quietly, "tell me everything that guy has done."

"Blake was so sweet and kind to me, I thought I finally found the one...someone like..."she paused and looked at Heero."But then he got so jealous at everything. He completely changed and gets angry when I'm around guys. He even got jealous when Pagan helped me out of the car. He was angry when he sees other ministers talking to me. He is blinded with envy. Yesterday, he rang to see if I'm with guys and he just started yelling at me and I don't know how to make him stop."Tears flooded out of Relena's blue eyres."I'm so scared when he is angry...there is no stopping him"

Heero stood up, his face red with anger."I'm going to kill him!"he roared. "No Heero"Relena screamed as she put her hands on Heero's. "I don't want you to ruin your future for me...please don't hurt Blake, he'll get so angry at you, Heero. Please, no...for me Heero"she looked down at her watch"its getting late, I better get going, please I want you all to come to the engagement party. I'll see you then...goodbye Heero."She looked at Heero and both eyes meet, neither able to look away. Finally, she blinked and walked away, leaving Heero planning how to kill Blake. He couldn't stand Relena getting hurt day after day. He'll protect her, even if he has to break his promise.
